The 100K Club

There are the 38 families with over 100,000 records in SCAN as of August 23, 2018.  Eight  families have been added to the club since August 2017.  Some notable changes since last year are 1) Ants are in the millionaire club with 1.1 million records, 2) Lepidoptera showed the biggest increase, 3) Apidae retains 2nd place and in combination with ants makes Hymenoptera the number one digitized order with Lepidoptera close behind.  Half of the families (19) have over 100k records that are georeferenced and identified to species, the only families in the 100k club that have very few research-ready records are Sciariidae, Cecidomyiidae, Phoridae and Platygastridae.  There should be at least 50 families in the 100k Club by next year.

There are 2.8 million images in SCAN, below are the numbers for the major groups.  We do not have the ability to distinguish label images from specimen images.
